Everything about Pokémon Cards
What is the Pokémon TCG?
The Pokémon TCG, short for Pokémon Trading Card Game, launched in Japan in 1996 and has never slowed down since. It works on two levels: it is a genuine strategy game where you build a deck and battle other trainers, and it is also pure collecting, with rare cards, alternate art and serialized versions sought after around the world. Every year new sets add fresh Pokémon, mechanics and cards to hunt for. You can play it at the table with friends, enter official tournaments or focus only on the collection: it is exactly this double nature that has kept the Pokémon TCG going for so long.

Booster Boxes and Displays
The most convenient way to open many packs at once. An English Booster Box usually holds 36 packs, ideal if you want volume and aim to complete a set. See all Booster Boxes and Displays.
Elite Trainer Box
An Elite Trainer Box bundles packs, dice, counters and card sleeves in a single box: perfect for starting out with everything you need. Discover Elite Trainer Boxes.
Collections and Tins
Special boxes, Tins and themed collections with exclusive promo cards and often an oversized jumbo card: made for collectors and for a gift that stands out. Browse Collections and Tins.
Preconstructed Decks
Decks ready to play straight out of the box, balanced and built around a clear strategy. The easiest starting point if you want to sit down at the table right away. View Preconstructed Decks.
Single Packs
One pack at a time, to try a set without buying a full box or to chase that one card you are missing. Each pack usually holds 9 to 10 cards. Buy Single Packs.
The latest sets and series
The Pokémon TCG is organised into series, and each series gathers several related sets. Right now the headline series is Mega Evolution, which brings Mega Evolutions back to the table with Megaevoluzione: Caos Nascente. Before it, Paradosso Temporale staged the clash between past and future Pokémon, while Scarlatto e Violetto – Destino di Paldea marked the return of shiny Pokémon. We keep the catalogue up to date with new sets: as soon as an expansion is announced we usually open preorders in the Italian edition and, when available, the Japanese one, so you do not miss out on launch day.

English or Japanese? How to choose
The local edition is the natural pick if you play tournaments and want to read card text in your own language: prices match the European market and sets arrive shortly after the international release. The Japanese edition usually comes out first, has different packaging and rarity ratios and includes cards collectors love, even though the text is in Japanese. In play, cards are fully legal regardless of language as long as you know the rules. Otakura carries both versions precisely because players and collectors often want different things: choose based on how you want to enjoy your Pokémon TCG.
How to start playing the Pokémon TCG
If you are starting from scratch, the easiest route is a product built for beginners. An Elite Trainer Box gives you packs, dice, counters and card sleeves all at once, while a preconstructed deck hands you a ready, balanced deck. From there you learn the rules by playing: how to attack, how prize cards work, how to build a strategy. For the basics we have written a step-by-step beginner's guide. Once you feel ready, you can customise your deck with cards from the latest sets.
